A HALF-DAY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE
for educators and community partners in METCO districts
Nearly 150 teachers, principals, and support staff from 21 METCO districts met in Framingham for METCO Headquarters' professional development event, Living the Legacy of METCO. We closed out the school year reflecting on the history of our METCO partnerships and the roles educators play in furthering the mission of racial integration.
- Writer and performer Ron Jones took the crowd back in time to 1966 to draw connections between the tireless advocacy of people like Ruth Batson and the pursuit of equity and justice today.
- Boston University's Dr. Raul Fernandez led a discussion about what it would be like for schools to truly meet the needs of diverse students, and how that would make education stronger for everyone.
"Outstanding event—highly productive, inquiry-based, and thought-provoking."
"An insightful and enlightening perspective regarding the experiences of the students who are part of this movement."
"I think every METCO school should have this presentation."
Special thanks to our sponsors, whose support makes it possible for us to offer custom-designed PD for the METCO community.
